J.M. Fenster. wrote in the September 1994 issue of American Heritage and article called, Nation of gamblers. (gambling history). In this article she focused mostly on the history of gambling in American only. She examined the many different businesses, government officials and the development of modern day gambling.
Fenster talked about how from the beginning American's have been wishy washy about the whole aspect of gambling. Either it is completely banned or it is welcomed with open arms. Fenster wrote about how over the past 100 years gambling has become one the largest pass times because,
"As the country expanded, each new advance in transportation brought a new chapter in gambling history." Betting on games, horse races, and the development of new games such as the slot machine from California. Gambling spread faster and brought many people from different backgrounds together.
